NVIDIA® SLI™ TECHNOLOGY

NVIDIA  SLI  is a revolutionary platform innovation that allows you to intelligently scale graphics performance by combining multiple NVIDIA graphics solutions in a motherboard with SLI-Certified. To run SLI, a PC must be equipped with a motherboard with SLI-Certified and 2 or 3 SLI-Certified GeForce GPU. NVIDIA GPU in combination with a board-SLI Certified  (supplied with the owner NVIDIA SLI connector) are the necessary building blocks for the SLI platform.

Dedicated scalability logic in each GPU and a digital interface between the GPU (SLI connector) enables this logic. In addition, a complete set of advanced processing algorithms to deliver the best image quality. Using proprietary software algorithms and dedicated scalability logic in each NVIDIA graphics processing unit (GPU), NVIDIA SLI technology delivers up to twice the performance (2 cards) and 2.8 X performance (with 3 cards) compared with a single graphics solution.

The amount of performance improvement depends on the application and its ability to scale. Many of the newer games and see a full 2X increase in performance when using SLI technology, which has two graphics cards. 3-way NVIDIA SLI technology delivers up to 2.8x performance increase over a single GPU. In general, applications running at higher resolutions and image quality settings will benefit most. SLI is designed for PCI Express. This new line is an excellent bandwidth (two to four times AGP 8X), support for isochronous data transport, and the ability to run multiple high-speed graphics devices. AGP 8X is only one device at high speed, graphics and was not a good candidate for SLI technology.
